Shedding some light on self-cleaning glass

Self-cleaning glass was one of the first nanotech enhancements to hit the building market. But did you know it’s not really self-cleaning? Many industry professionals prefer the term “low maintenance” because, while windows treated with titanium dioxide and other nanocoatings require less maintenance that untreated windows, they’re not maintenance-free. Still, 71 percent of consumers say they would choose self-cleaning windows even though they can add as much as $2200 to the cost of a new home.
