Iowa plant to produce natural plastics

natural_plastic.jpgBiobased and totally biodegradable natural plastics will be produced at a rate of 110 million pounds per year at a new plant in Clinton, Iowa. The project is the work of Telles, a joint venture between Metabolix and Archer Daniels Midland. Their product, called Mirel Natural Plastic, can be used as an alternative to petroleum-based plastic in a wide variety of processes, including injection molding, paper coating, cast film and sheet, blown film, and thermoforming.
